I try a friendly take on GTA Online. Didn’t really work though D:
After many rumors it has been announced that Valve has partnered with Xi3, who are creating a “development stage computer game system” optimized for Steam’s Big Picture Mode.
The system, which is housed within a grapefruit-sized Xi3 modular computer chasis, is being shown off this week at the 2013 International CES and is designed solely to support Steam Big Picture mode for high definition screens, be it television or monitor.
“Today marks the beginning of a new era for Xi3,” said founder, president and CEO of Xi3 Jason Sullivan. “This new development stage product will allow users to take full-advantage of their large high-definition TV displays for an amazing computer game experience. As a result, this new system could provide access to thousands of gaming titles through an integrated system that exceeds the capabilities of leading game consoles, but can fit in the palm of your hand.”
Looking at the Modular computer chassis that Xi3 sell, you can tell that they are tiny, yet large enough to pack a punch, so it’s possible that we could see a fully realised PC or ‘Steam Box’ in production.
This is all well and good, but more info is expected to surface as CES 2013 continues this week. If this turns out to be the real ‘Steam Box’ everyone has been waiting for, it’d be an interesting arrival. However it’s more likely that this could just be the first stepping stone of a prototype.
The in development gaming system is being shown at the Xi3 booth and Valve’s booth this year at CES – if you’re there, why not pop down and take some pictures?
