Ubisoft have announced that they’re ramping up efforts on their Assassin’s Creed film and have bagged Inglorious Basterds, Prometheus and X-Men: First Class star Michael Fassbender to play the lead role.
Work on a screenplay is to begin immediately with a director, cast and script to all be in place by next summer.
Ubisoft have also managed to forge a partnership with production studio New Regency to help pay for the big production. They have also agreed to let Ubisoft keep close creative control on the film that means it should feel and look like the Assassin’s Creed franchise that’s loved by the world over.
“We don’t want to make games just for the sake of movies,” Ubisoft Motion Pictures boss Jean-Julien Baronnet said. “We want to make them in concert with the games.
It looks like things will kick off next summer so we can probably expect the film to arrive sometime in 2014.
Ubisoft are also interested in creating a Splinter Cell film, Watch Dogs and Ghost Recon film.
