Blade Guardian is Mistwalker’s 2nd Mobile Game

September 25th, 2012

Hironobu Sakaguchi’s leave from Square Enix to start up Mistwalker was a move that shocked many indeed, but it worked out well for all of us in the end with titles like Lost Odyssey, Blue Dragon and The Last Story bridging the void left in the JRPG market by his move away from the Final Fantasy series. And the fact that he’s now focusing attention on bringing his team’s talents to the mobile gaming front is another reason to raise eyebrows. He’s done it once already with Party Wave, and now he’s doing in again with Blade Guardian.

Set for an October 1st release across iOS and Android devices, Blade Guardian is Mistwalker’s venture into the hightly saturated tower defence genre.

Focusing on funnelling enemies through your defences, Blade Guardian sets up multiple spawn points across the board to make strategy even more key to survival, but it can occassionally make up for it’s high difficulty by floating a “Guardian” your way to help quell the pressure. Shoot down this bad boy from the vehichle suspending it from above and you’ll have a powerful mecha punching its way throw to the enemeis spawn point looking to remove it and its threats for good. But if the waves are just too much to handle, the Guardian can be rolled up into a giant ball of creature stomping death allowing you to manuever it around the board via your devices tilt controls (quite like Super Monkey Ball) and destroy everything in its wake. Just try to avoid your own structures.

Blade Guardian should appear on iTunes App Store and Google Play October 1st. You can view some screenshots here.
