“A reliable source” has told Eurogamer that Sony Studio Liverpool were working on two PlayStation 4 launch titles before they were closed earlier today.
It comes as no surprise that one of these games was a WipEout title that was slated as being “dramatically different” than previous entries. The other title was a Splinter Cell-style game.
According to Eurogamer’s source, the WipEout game was “far along” in development as it had been in the works for 12 to 18 months.
Another source has also told Eurogamer that the Splinter Cell styled game actually began life as a “gangster style experience” before evolving into something else. It apparently used motion capture tech similar to that of LA Noire but was “a bit ahead of it,” whatever that means.
It’ll be interesting to see if Sony decide to move these projects to other studios, or to have them completely trashed.
