The topic of Timesplitters is a sensitive one. Teases around a Timesplitters 4 occur frequently, and just as frequently they are quashed by franchise owner Crytek. However, maybe there is some hope.
In an interview with VG247, Crytek boss Cevat Yerli teased that the company “might have some surprises coming soon” in relation to the Timesplitters franchise.
Not too long ago Yerli had stated that they didn’t feel the demand was high enough for a return to the franchise, and so – despite his fondness for Crytek UK’s IP – it was unlikely they would see it as a viable business venture to revisit the games.
This statement then spawned a Facebook group aiming to reach 100,000 fans who wanted Timesplitters to return, currently they sit on around 29,000 members.
Still, and understandably, Crytek don’t feel the interest is high enough, yet it did mean they have though about the franchise a little more seriously now.
“I tested through my official blog to see how big the Timesplitters community is, and while the volume of responses was quite high, we feel it’s not high enough yet,” said Yerli. “That being said, it did indeed trigger a deeper evaluation of what we do with Timesplitters, and I can only say this for now; we might have some surprises coming soon.”
Could this surprise be an announcement of a HD trilogy or remake? After all Xbox game Timesplitters: Future Perfect doesn’t work on an Xbox 360.
