After HD TV came 3D TV and now 4K TV is the next technology that’s being thrown in the face of us consumers.
According to Yahoo news, a source has informed them that Sony’s next box of tricks will support 4K technology and – much like the PS3 packaged itself with bluray in a move to push the format – Sony is betting on it for shifting 4K TVs.
“Sony’s plan to introduce an 80-inch XBR LED television set with 4K resolution is said to be the start of a larger scheme to push 4K on consumers,” reads the news post.
“Since 3D isn’t gaining much traction, Sony is betting on 4K as a way to get consumers to upgrade their home entertainment devices,” the post continues. “Sony is already selling 4K Blu-ray players for $200, and the company’s next-generation PlayStation 4 will indeed support 4K resolution playback as well.”
If this news is true, it’s a sign of just how powerful it could be as it’d be able to render images in 4K as it’s native resolution.
