While not the flagship store, GAME Oxford Street is potentially the biggest GAME store in London and it’s closure means the major London shopping street will be without a games retailer for christmas time.
The news comes from Eurogamer who have been informed that the closure is due to the expiration of the stores lease.
It seems impossible for a lease renewal as the store owner, Lazari GP, had previously tried to evict GAME due to £100,000 in rent being owed.
GAME issued this statement:
“We can confirm that we will be closing our Oxford Street store on 8th September 2012 due to the expiration of the lease.
“Our West End customers can visit our concession in Hamleys on Regent Street, our flagship store in Westfield Stratford, or our websites at http://www.game.co.uk or http://www.gamestation.co.uk. We also have stores in Hammersmith, Surrey Quays, and Westfield White City.”
GAME are “actively looking at other retail options in the West End”, meaning a new store could crop up in time for Christmas.
Employees of the Oxford Street store have temporarily been relocated to other stores across London and the South East.

I’m really lucky my local Game is still open as other ones my area closed down one by one. I was there just yesterday picking up my Darksiders 2 Limited Edition for PS3 (with Death Rides Pack included)
