Everybody wants an arcade machine in their home – whether you admit to wanting it or not, you’d go crazy for a sexy table unit or a beautiful cabinet in the corner of your games room. It’s because of this that London based Bespoke Arcade have been making some incredible custom arcade machines for gamers everywhere.
Getting a chance to talk at length with founders Ben Georget and Phil Patsias at the Mad Catz Unveiled event in London last Friday, we saw just how passionate the pair are about video games and how spectacular their beautiful hand-made custom cabinets are too. Having been established six years ago out of a desire to fill the gap in the market for custom made cabinets, Bespoke Arcades were showing off their EVO standing cabinet and a prototype flat pack cabinet for fighting games that you may see coming to high-street and online retailers soon.
Both units were impressive – with the prototype unit obviously seeming a little rough around the edges but solid in its design principles – and whilst the fighting game cabinet held two linked Street Fighter X Tekken VS sticks, the EVO cabinet included two bespoke and integrated fight sticks for two player, 8 button play.
As every cabinet can be fully customised to your own specifications, the design work that adorns the side can be made to whatever you want, and the more lavish ‘Media’ version of the EVO cabinet also boasts higher spec internal components and those splashing out on an ‘Elite’ version will get to hear the benefit of Bose speakers.
Each of the EVO cabinets comes pre-loaded with around 350 licensed retro titles to play – which showed just how bad I was at Super Street Fighter II, Metal Slug, Commando and Gun Smoke – and if you fancy putting on some questionable MAME emulation software to play thousands more titles you can, along with any other software emulators too – although obviously these don’t come included due to their legality. The EVO cabinets also have support to plug in a PS3 and Xbox 360 so you can check out your games on a lovely 28″ HD TFT screen that shows the reto titles off superbly.
Whilst it may be out of the price range of some gamers, at least if you want to customise the unit to your hearts content, Bespoke Arcades are offering highly affordable cabinets for fans to adorn their games room with and play a whole slew of retro titles in an incredible and fitting way to their retro heritage; and when the flat-pack Vs cabinet comes to market, it’ll be affordable for most gamers.
