Ubisoft had planned to bring an Assassin’s Creed film out to wow fans and newcomers into the series.
The original idea was to have the film developed by Sony Pictures, however the project will now be developed independently by Ubisoft Motion Pictures who will attach a writer and director, then seek out a production partner.
Variety reports that Michael Fassbender (Prometheus, Inglorious Basterds, Shame, X-Men: First Class) will take a starring role and will co-produce the project with DMC Film partner Conor McCaughan.
“Michael Fassbender was our first choice,” said UMP CEO Jean-Julien Baronnet. “Michael is an extremely smart, talented, versatile and committed actor.”
“We’re open to re-discuss with the key studios once the production package is finalised,” said Baronnet on matters concerning the projects hiatus with Sony Pictures. “Whatever the financial model, UMP will limit its risk investment.”
