Game to film conversions rarely ever work, and the ones that do work rarely capture the essence of what made the game fun, however that doesn’t mean that Hollywood wont stop trying.
The latest casualty candidate is the Splinter Cell franchise – which is getting a new entry early next year.
It seems that Ubisoft have been in talks with Warner Bros. over rights to the project, but according to Deadline, Paramount Pictures is the “frontrunner” for such a project.
Apparently Ubisoft are going to be “very involved” in the project and will retain control over how the game is adapted to film – so maybe there is some hope yet.
This isn’t the first time that Ubisoft have gotten involved in live action movies for its franchises, with a whole set of Assassin’s Creed movies and shorts as well as a live action Ghost Recon: Alpha movie that cost around $10 million to make.
