Epic games, the developer that takes pride in splattering chunks of enemy meat around after a good insta-gibbing has revealed that their most profitable game isn’t Gears of War or Unreal Tournament but the iOS title Infinity Blade.
Speaking to GDC Taipei, as reported by Gamasutra, Epic CEO Tim Sweeney revealed that the iOS title took the crown for the companies revenue:
“We’ve been very happy with the game industry’s growth.
“For a while we were worried that the divide between the console growth in the west, and the growth of PCs, would increase. The most profitable game we’ve ever made, in terms of man years invested versus revenue, is actually Infinity Blade. It’s more profitable than Gears of War.
“[We’ve been] very, very surprised to see how fast smartphone and tablet devices are improving.”
Sweeney believes that the future consoles wont be the big high-end business they are now, but instead “will just be another platform.”
