Final Fantasy VII is one of the most cherished Final Fantasy titles amongst fans – so much so that people have been calling for a remake of the title for years.
It seems that the incredibly hard to find PC version that Squaresoft released in 1998 will be returning via Steam. It’ll feature all the Steam staples of achievements and and cloud saving, as well as online profiles so you can compare your progress with others.
It also appears to have something called a Character Booster that can be deployed to increase HP, MP and Gil to max whenever you find yourself stuck – essentially to make the game seem more appealing to those who couldn’t manage the original’s difficulty.
“Find yourself stuck on a difficult section or lacking the funds to buy that vital Phoenix Down? With the Character Booster you can increase your HP, MP and Gil levels to their maximum, all with the simple click of a button, leaving you to enjoy your adventure.”
The information around this possible Steam release comes from the now pulled FinalFantasyVIIPC.com site that Square-Enix had set up (found by GoG Forum). The page is still available via the Google Cache service, and sports a list of the features and character information – essentially it all looks rather legit.
It’s priced at £7.99/€9.99.

The PC version was how I actually got to play this masterpiece myself. Although I’ll admit I didn’t manage to track the physical copy down…
