This morning Nintendo held two Nintendo Direct conferences. One for the West, and one for Japan.

Whilst we heard news that the Nintendo 3DS XL was on the way and that a new Super Smash Bros. title was in development, Japan got news about a new Animal Crossing for 3DS, even showing off a trailer.

Satoru Iwata took to the virtual stage and revealed a new trailer for the titile that is due out in Europe and North America in 2013.

The new footage shows that this time around you’ll play as the new town mayor, allowing you to create your town from scratch instead of working your way up the social ladder from being ‘the new guy in town’.

You can sport more clothes than before thanks to larger bodies, and animals within the town now have a more realistic size, with some being smaller and others being huge in comparison.

There is also a new ‘model home’ area where you can view your friends houses that you’ve encountered via StreetPass.

All in all it sounds like a nice re-invention of the series!
