It seems that fans will never give up hope that Square-Enix will someday change their minds, throw caution – and a lot of money – into the wind, and make a Final Fantasy VII remake that all the die hard fans asked for, but ultimately will hate.
This time it seems that Final Fantasy VII character designer Tetsuya Nomura has clarified the situation once again.
In an interview with Famitsu (via. Andraisang) for an anniversary feature on Final Fantasy VII, Nomura acknowledges the fact that there is a desire from fans for a remake, however he points out that Square-Enix are now focusing on making new titles. This time they’re working hard to make these new games match, or even top, the brilliance of Final Fantasy VII.
Nomura also says that he believes that longrunning Final Fantasy director and producer Yoshinori Kitase is the person who will create a true successor to the FF series.
Interestingly Nomura also threw some FFVII trivia into the interview, mentioning that Yuffie was originally planned as a felon. You’d see posters for her around Midgar, each with a different picture and trait, when you eventually met up with Yuffie, she would contain the traits of the last poster you saw.
