Two New Mass Effect Squad-mates Discovered

January 27th, 2012

Before we go on this is post will be filled with a spoiler or two, so if you’d rather have an untainted Mass Effect 3 experience look away now! Or read on and feel a slight pang of guilt, but then get over it.

From the Art of Mass Effect book a page on squad-mates shows off two that we haven’t seen, nor heard of, before. The first is a Prothean character, for those who don’t know the Protheans are an extinct race who essentially created everything awesome about the ME universe.

The second character is EDI, yes as in the Normandy’s ship computer. Now before you guffaw, this time she’s a little different. Having ditched the ‘body’ of the Normandy, she’s now got herself a new curvaceous robotic form, a form that the book has no trouble describing.

EDI’s body needed to be sexy, chrome, and robotic, the Mass Effect version of Maria from Metropolis. We had a lot of discussion about how robotic she would appear, what her “hair” would look like, and whether or not her face would be expressive. Since the body is an infiltration unit that once had skin over metal, we decided she should have the same facial effects as the other humans. Otherwise the unit would be easily spotter.

It is unclear how either of these team mates get into your squad, nor quite how they will work in terms of skills they offer, or interactivity options – i.e. can you charm them into bed or not. Either way it seems that it’ll be interesting!
