That incredibly popular plumber not only continually saves Princess Peach from the clutches of Bowser, but also regularly saves Nintendo’s hide from the wrath of it’s investors.
Mario has done it once again. The behemoth that is Super Mario 3D Land helped shift hundreds of thousands of Nintendo 3DS handhelds, and it seems the portly plumber is also the first 3DS game to ever break five million sales.
Since its launch just before Christmas, the title has gone on to sell 5.03 million copies worldwide, whilst Mario Kart 7 was hot on its heels with a sales record of 4.54 million.
To put it into perspective, Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D has only shifted 2.49 million copies since launch, and none of the titles quite reach the lofty heights of some of the DS titles Nintendo have released.
