New Playstation 3 Controller Packaging

September 26th, 2011

It seems while I was out today to pick up a new controller for my Playstation 3 I was introduced to the new and much easier packaging for it. We haven’t seen this anywhere else so we figured we would post it up and show everyone.

If anyone remembers the previous packaging for Sony’s controllers or any of their products, it was all heavy plastic that took a buzz saw and the jaws of life to get through. Well, it looks like Sony finally got the messages of all the fans who disliked it, or came to their senses. The new packaging is box like and only requires removal of tape and bam, open box. Simplicity is a good thing in this case especially since most stores keep the controllers on lock down or behind counters.

Have any thoughts on the new packaging? We think its rather spiffy looking, and don’t hate on the RED controller. :)

Note: Looking to add higher quality photos at another date, it was taken on a camera phone. Our sincere apologies.

Camera phone? You sure? Most camera phones nowadays don’t even look that bad.

Anyway, much better packaging. Hopefully they do it for their other accessories too.

I bet the main motive was to reduce costs of packaging material. From the pics it looks a bit more on the ‘budgety’ side, I’m a fan of the older packaging, despit the bulletproofness of it. But as long as the controller itself remains unchains, I’m a happy camper!
