DICE Responds To Gamers Disappointed Over PS3 Footage Of Battlefield 3

7 Comments

While most console gamers are more than satisfied with the PS3 footage of Battlefield 3 shown on late night with Jimmy Fallon last night, there are some who say they’re somewhat disappointed in the showing, claiming it’s a downgrade from what we’ve been seeing all along after DICE had allegedly promised that Battlefield 3 would look the same across all platforms.

The developers of Battlefield 3 have responded to the concerns that some PS3 gamers have with the following:

Johan Andersson Rendering Architect at DICE says via Twitter:

“Why would anyone expect that console would look the same as PC? If that was the case we would have failed with the PC version.”

DICE General Manager KM Troedsson also pointed out that what we saw was a pre-alpha build of the game, so we should expect it to look ever better at launch. KM Troedsson had this to say via his Twitter page

“Of course, everything we show is pre-alpha… until we hit alpha,”

Battlefield 3 will be available in October for the Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and PC.

    Hmmm, I didn’t see anything much wrong with what was shown. But hey, why should console players be left behind. Crysis 2 also looked better on PC. 2nd was 360 with PS3 just a tad behind in my opinion. It’s not the tech though, it’s the developer who makes this choice

    I see little wrong with the PS3 reveal of the game, it wasnt the best footage because we were viewing it being played from a screen rather than it being streamed straight to the PC, that will make the quality seem less, plus its like the developers say a pre alpha viewing, its still gotta go through beta testing and final stages of production, save your judgement for the release!, im a big graphics fan, if the graphics suck i wont look twice at a game, but if i am more than pleased with the result thus far, then yeah!.

    a console gamer

    @JustaGamer
    its not the developers fault, console hardware is six years old

      I believe he was refering to the difference in the consoles (xbox/ps3) rather then the pc.

        Actually, I was referring to both the console difference and priority in which developers choose to form the game. I think the build would have been built on PC as the main target, and then converted to the 360/PS3. In the case of BF3, that is the way it should be, as the main audience here will be the PC market whom are most familiar with the BF Franchise.
        Nothing wrong with that, but it’s also down to number of resources allocated to each platforms team.
        Bottom line though, I have just as much faith in DICE as everyone else, and I can’t wait to get this on the PS3. I’m happy with it so far.

    There was nothing wrong with it, sure the PC version is better, but not by that much and the gameplay is exactlt the same. It’s still 1000000x better than CoD.

    To be honest, I think it is amazing to see what they have done. Of course it’s not going to look like a PC version, because it’s not!!!! Console’s are no where as powerful as PC’s, just look at the start of the PS3 games looked….ok. Now though, they look amazing. Plus the game isn’t even finished, so what is everyone worrying about? DICE will make this game look amazing
