Mel B, formerly known as Scary Spice from the Spice Girls. The British pop-rock all-girl phenomenon that swept the globe. Mel B is currently host of Oxygen’s Dance Your A** Off and Mel B: It’s A Scary World. Get Fit allows you to work out with Mel B for the first time side-by-side with the Playstation Move in the comfort of your own home. Can this workout regimen ‘feel the burn’ or does it get a little bit scary.

Warming Up
Fitness is a very important part of many peoples lives. This game is a cheap and affordable way to lose weight and tone your body the way you want. As all fitness and workout regimens you have to be dedicated and enjoy what you are doing to lose all that weight. Mel B gives you the motivation that will really help some people and also includes nutrition info and recipes for the player to follow to better the work they are doing to help them stay fit. The player starts out by building a profile by selecting your gender, inputting your date of birth, height, weight (I was tempted to lie), build (muscular, thin etc.) and choose any foods you are would like to not be included in recipes (basically anything the player is allergic to). Then you would go onto choosing a background location from six different settings to work out with Mel B in. You are then given a chance to decide what you would like to set your fitness goals at and personalize your workouts. Do you want to tone your body? Work on your abs? Need to lose some weight before a big event? Want to stay fit and healthy for your heart? Or do you need to lose that belly and slim down that waistline? Get Fit With Mel B has whatever you need to help you choose the best workout regimen for you. If you are an avid fitness nut this game allows you to tell Mel B that you have certain equipment, weights, resistance band, fitball or aerobics step. It will then work those equipment types into the regimen for you.

Working Out
If you plan on using the game it was meant to be used for, to get fit and work on your body than I would recommend focusing on the ‘Today’s Workouts’ sections at least twice a day and following the nutrition guide to help you along the way. Today’s Workouts compiles a thirty-minute workout for the player based on their choices and fitness goals. From the Today’s Workout screen you can even change the time limit if you are short on time or feel like going the distance and even change goals on the fly. If you are feeling like something different all-together you can go to Choose Workout and mix and match from all the categories for a completely custom workout. Two main categories to mix and match from are Aerobics and Fitness. From the Workout menu you can even practice individual workouts to get better at them and even participate in challenges in five different categories (Dance, Abs Attack, Legs Of Steel, Fighting Fit and Cardio Test) to get high scores and get a taste of how fit you are in those categories. Get Fit also tracks your progress and even gives you a stats page for all seven categories in the game rating you from 1 to 100. It also tracks how many calories you have burned, and starts you have earned as well as your total workout time. Players can even see what medals they have earned in the challenges.

Move It, Shake It
The Playstation Move adds a unique addition to the fitness genre. It can be manipulated but for the most part it works, very well. No matter what hand you are holding it in. Some exercises don’t use the move and track your body and for the most part it only half works. When the Move is used, it is almost always on the spot. After every workout Mel B will tell you your stats along with your Move accuracy to see how well you did. For people who don’t like seeing themselves on their TV, it can be turned on and off in the options menu and replaced with a list of upcoming reps and workout list for the current regimen. It is a neat feature that I am sure people will be happy was implemented.

Cool Down
The real downside to Mel B is that it can be manipulated by people who are just looking for either trophies or are too lazy to use the game as is. If you are one of those people, simply do not pick this title up. It is a title for gamers and people who are looking to stay fit with cheap and easy means. It really does benefit those who spend 100’s of dollars every year at a gym or on a personal trainer. Get Fit provides over 200 workouts and even more if you have fitness equipment lying around your house. For the price ($39.99) and the content Get Fit is one of the juiciest Move titles on the market today. Mel B gives players the support and information needed to really keep their body in check. It is simply one of the best fitness games on the market, which is set to be crowded this holiday with a slur of fitness games that use the Move and Kinect. Simply put, Mel B did it first and so far, does it best. [starreview tpl=16]
