It was announced today by Major Nelson that in a few months the Original Xbox’s Live capabilities will be shut off. How sad. Everyone weeps for the 3 people who still play Original Xbox Live and haven’t yet upgraded to a Xbox 360 or a PS3 maybe even a Wii. This development does show one thing. Sony’s Playstation 2 wins the last gen battle, FOR GOOD. It has outsold it, out played it and now out gamed it. The Playstation 2 is still going strong, and theres no telling when Sony will pull the plug on developing for the console. From that point it will still be at LEAST a few months before they decide to pull the servers from the online. The online for PS2 is still going strong, with Socom, Madden, NBA, FIFA, along with many other titles. Microsoft seems to always be the first to pull the plug. First when the 360 launched they immediately stopped support for the Original Xbox. They simply cut the revenue stream, which some see as a stupid idea. So far, it has paid off for them by allowing them more free developers to develop amazing 360 titles like Too Human, Last Remanent, Lost Oddesey, DOA: Extreme Beach Volleyball, Gears Of War 2, and of course, Halo 3. What will become of the PS2 in the future? Nobody knows yet. But one things for sure, nows a good time to start selling your Xbox and its games.

FYI for those who didn’t know, when playing a ps2 (poss ps1) game on ps3, it still has the ability to be played online! one of few benefits of the original sku’s with b.c.
I still play a lil’ classic socom (-graphics +no glitches) and madden (before it lost it’s soul/fun)
too bad for those suckers. I can’t wait for the disappointment on their faces when they can’t trade their ‘boxes at Gamestop.
I’m NOT a fanboy, but you also have to remember that ps3 was a lot more expensive a few months back, and I had friends that got a ps2 instead of a ps3 just because of the price. so thats a factor that has to be considered…
The author forgot that EA sport titles like he is talking about doesn’t have online play in PS2 anymore since 2K9 editions…
3 people that still play? I play Halo 2, and SW Battlefront 2 online ON MY XBOX 360.
And yes I still play Socom II online, but more of Socom Confrontation as it got much better with Cold Front and 1.6
PS2 won regardless of when Microsoft pulled the plug on their servers. PS2 outsold the Xbox by a ratio of more than 5 – to – 1. So it didn’t just “Win” it completely destroyed the competition without even breaking a sweat.
