Nintendo execs must be feeling the sting of betrayal as yesterday GamesIndustry.biz revealed the results of a network survey that shows 34% of industry professionals are backing the PS3 for a come back in 2010. Last year the same survey showed only 16.4% of people felt the PS3 would be successful meaning that support has more than doubled. The rise in expectations for the console is attributed to a heavy hitting 2010 line up, with games such as Gran Turismo 5 and God of War III set to be released as well as the PS3′s new motion control peripheral. Trailing not far behind however was Microsoft and the Xbox 360 with 29.9% of the votes. The 360 has already sold 39 million units worldwide and with the release of games such as Halo Reach and Fable III slated for 2010, as well as the much anticipated hands-free motion controller Natal, you can see why support remains strong. Support for Nintendo on the other hand isn’t so high. While last year Nintendo lead the market this year it seems industry professionals are favouring Apples iPhone over the Wii. In 2009 Nintendo held 54.4% of the vote, this year it has fell to a rather meagre 9.3%. Quite a drop. Looking at publishers now and the company expected to be most successful is once again Activision Blizzard as they get 43.7% of the votes, an increase from there 2009 result of 30.6%. Understandable given there success last year with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, and there line up of new IP for this year such as Blur and Singularity. EA received roughly the same amount of votes as it did last year but the real disappointment is once again Nintendo whose support has once again dropped from 20.7% last year to 9.4% this year. So a bad outlook for Nintendo but a good one for Sony it seems. At least if the industry professionals are to be believed but are they right? While Sonys motion controller is slated for release before Microsofts, it hasn’t gained anywhere near the media attention that Natal has. Furthermore Sony may have a good line up ahead but so does Microsoft. Whichever way the battle for sales goes one things certain, 2010 is going to be a great year for gamers.

I thought this would be the case for 2010, I’ve been blinded by the 360 for three years until my friend got a PS3 and for the money the PS3 wins outright I think. I think if the PS3 were to be released with the same spec as the 360 the PS3 would be between £60 and £100, thats calculating that each part the PS3 comes with would be equal to the equivalent 360′s parts price – wireless, blu ray drive, PS1, PS2(which they’ll hopefully bring back), free online(£40 per annum) and also DVD upscaling which I haven’t actually taken into account price wise… but my point is that people don’t realise what a good deal the PS3 is.

The Wii’s catalogue is a casual gamers/new gamers playground, nothing much for the regular gamer (except Mad World) both the PS3 and Wii suffer from developmental hurdles but I would still rather go for both over the 360, once you calculate the costs, Microsoft are ripping you off.
