At Microsoft Press Conference yesterday at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, Nevada. The President of the Entertainment Division for Microsoft, Robbie Bach, told the press that Alan Wake will have downloadable content in the form of episodes much like a television show. Bach stated that, ” Alan Wake will be Story-driven like a TV series. The game will be told in episodes, with additional episodes after launch later this year on Xbox LIVE.” Evidently Bach did not give us a price point or a pinpoint release date on which the DLC will come out.

For those of you who are not aware of what Alan Wake is about let me fill you in. The game is about a best-selling suspense author who is trapped inside the peaceful town of Bright Falls, in which he attempts to forget about the loss of his beloved fiancé. Later he discovers that the town is anything but peaceful. Alan must use his creative mind to piece together the mystery of Bright Falls, or risk being trapped inside the nightmarish world for eternity.

Alan Wake is truly one of the first of its kind. Looking to raise the bar for the future of games to come, and taking us a step forward in the gaming era. Giving us a truly cinematic experience this piece of entertainment offers mind-bending puzzles, intense combat, and truly horrifying enemies. It’s good to hear that we are getting ,”extra episodes,” in addition to what looks to be an innovation in games.

Alan Wake is scheduled to come out in the spring later this year, and is a Xbox 360 exclusive.

Wooo, scheduled to come out just before my birthday. I think that’s a present waiting to happen!
All I’ve seen about this game looks to make it an awesomely gripping story, so I’m really looking forward to it.

    Two thumbs up from me!

    Exclusive for 360 – doesn’t bother me – it’s the only console I have!
not surprised they’ve gone in already planning DLC though – it’s where after-sales sales are done that extra cash flow comes from these days.

Well there was a time it was speculated as going to be PC and 360, but then they dropped the PC version for some reason *Shrug*

    An incentive/bribe from Microsoft? lol

I don’t get the point of exclusives tbh For the gaming system company they are obviously good but for the developer… If I were to make a game, I would want it on as many game consoles + PC as possible to sell more copies lol

The developer usually gets paid for agreeing to make the game exclusive.
I would fully expect either massive free advertising pushes by the console owner, or compensation for expected loss of sales etc on other platforms.

It must work out somehow yeah or it wouldn’t happen but if I ever make a game it won’t be exclusive to any formats lol
